Well it’s official! Brett Favre has been traded……..to the New York Jets! Of course, the league still has to approve the trade, but I assume that they will and Brett Favre will be a member of the New York Jets. From all of the speculation these last few days, I had thought for sure that he would get traded to the Tampa Bay Bucs, but that did not happen. Tampa apparently was not willing to give up what the Packers wanted in exchange for Favre. As it turns out, the Jets were really dedicated in trying to trade for Favre.
According to ESPN.com, the trade is as follows:
The exact compensation wasn’t immediately available, but it is believed to be a fourth-round draft pick that increases in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season.
According to the NFL Network, if Favre takes 50% of total snaps with the Jets in 2008, the fourth rounder becomes a third-round pick. If he gets 70% of the snaps and the Jets make the playoffs, it becomes a second-round pick; and if he gets 80% of snaps and the Jets make the Super Bowl, it becomes a first-round pick.
To me it’s a shame to see how the Packers treated their future HOF QB. That’s just not how you treat your star player; ever! I wonder if this will effect the team in any way.
On the fantasy football side of this trade, this now will increase the fantasy values for starting WRs Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery as well as starting RB Thomas Jones. With a proven QB like Favre expect to see increased TDs for both Coles and Cotchery seeing their total receiving yards increase. Jones should an increase in his TDs as well due to facing less stacked defensive lines. His total rushing yards should increase too!
Have any thoughts on this trade? Leave me some comments telling me how you feel about this!
