Ask anyone who plays fantasy football why they didn’t win their league last season. I bet you the first word out of their mouth is “injuries”.

Sometimes it’s a valid excuse (see Tom Brady, 2008). Sometime…

Colts WR Pierre Garcon and TE Dallas Clark will sit out tonight’s contest against the Bills, as noted here on Tuesday. So one of the keys that I will be watching Thursday night is who gets the start at receiver opposite Reggie Wayne.

Colts WR Pierre Garcon and TE Dallas Clark are expected to miss Thursday’s preseason game against the Bills, according to the team’s official Web site. Much ado about nothing or further fuel for the notion that teams coming off Super Bowl losses tend t…

The first week of preseason is drawing to a conclusion. Can you feel the excitement? We are that much closer to the start of fantasy football season. There are two games to keep track of while you gather the family for Summer Slam on Sunday.

Jamaal Charles or Thomas Jones? That is the question.

The answer, unfortunately, isn’t so elementary. If you believe Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley, the depth chart means nothing:

”They both w…

Pierre Garcon is listed as a starting wide receiver opposite Reggie Wayne on the Colts’ unofficial depth chart, which was released today.

Peyton Manning is looking to improve upon his chemistry with his wide recievers this season.

Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter both had rough days at training camp on Sunday and the Denver Broncos now will have to scramble for answers.

Moreno was carted off the field after catching a screen …

You often see fantasy players overrated the year after they blow up in the playoffs. Occasionally, those players still come through, sometimes with bigger seasons than you expect. Take Brent Celek last year. Will today’s Man of Intrigue, Pierre Garcon, fall into the overrated category or the breakout category?

If you just look at Garcon’s season stats, there isn’t that much to get excited about. He gained 765 yards and scored four TDs, numbers that in normal circumstances you’d just dismiss. He only caught as many as six balls in a game twice, and that was also the two games in which he broke the 100-yard barrier. He didn’t play in either of the team’s last two regular season games.

Garcon’s first playoff game was more of the same: five catches, 34 yards, no scores. What he did the next week in the AFC Championship game is what earned him MOI status. With Darrelle Revis shutting down No. 1 WR Reggie Wayne, Garcon exploded for 11 catches, 157 yards and a touchdown, playing an integral part in the Colts‘ come-from-behind victory.

Garcon would add five catches, 66 yards and another TD in the Super Bowl loss to the Saints. He finished the postseason with 21 catches, 251 yards and two TDs.

This was a wild year for wide receivers. The Cowboys spent a first-round and third-round pick (plus paid a good deal of money) to bring in a franchise receiver to replace Terrell Owens, but it turns out they had that franchise receiver on their team all along. The label “The Other Steve Smith” actually switched Smiths. Oh, and we discovered that when you add a “Sims” to your name, you can transform into a top-five receiver for half the season. Look out for Josh Sims-Morgan in 2010.

Many owners don’t like spending early picks on receivers, knowing that unheralded guys (like several of our Heroes) emerge every season. I’d like to point out that Andre Johnson was the top receiver in football for the last two years. I spent a first-rounder on him last year, and I may wind up doing the same next year.

On to the heroes …

Peyton ManningCut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse’s weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.

You wake up in the middle of the night in cold sweats just thinking about the possibility. You beg for it not to happen — not during Week 16, your fantasy football championship weekend. But alas, the worst scenario imaginable has come true.

According to the Associated Press, the Indianapolis Colts starting offensive players won’t lobby for playing time during the final two weeks of the NFL season.

According to Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune, Saints coach Sean Payton grew frustrated with Reggie Bush during their Week 13 games for lack of effort. Join the club Mr. Payton of every fantasy football owner who took a chance on Bush and is being jilted now with injuries or this nonsense about his intensity levels.

Reggie Bush played in his first game since missing the previous two with a bone bruise in his right knee. Sean Payton told Fox broadcasters he wanted to limit Bush to 20 snaps in the game, but Payton clearly grew frustrated with Bush near the end of the first half. First, Bush took a screen pass and nonchalantly stepped out of bounds short of the first down after a nine-yard gain.

Peyton ManningIf you’ve been rolling along all fantasy football season with Peyton Manning as your QB, chances are you’re sitting pretty right about now. Maybe Reggie Wayne, Joseph Addai or Dallas Clark has helped you along the way. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you might be screwed if you’re banking on the Colts guiding you to a fantasy football crown this next month.

It’s been smooth sailing up to this point, but it all went terribly wrong for the fortunes of the Colts fantasy owners when the Patriots failed to convert that fateful fourth down a few weeks back. That play coupled with the Colts clinching the AFC South at Houston this past weekend all but ensured the Colts would follow the norm and rest their stars for the stretch run. This isn’t anything new around the Colts organization and in fact it’s pretty commonplace for the Colts to focus on the bigger picture.

And the less savvy fantasy owners won’t be prepared.
