Jay Cutler – Cutler adjusting to new offense

by The Huddle

Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler said the new offensive system comes down to total trust, reports Neil Hayes, of The Chicago Sun-Times. "You have to trust the receivers. You have to trust the call. You have to trust the spots. If you don't, if you don't let it fly when it's supposed to, it's going to be an interception," Cutler said. "You take your seven steps, you identify the coverage and let the ball go. The receiver is supposed to be there." He admitted to struggling mightily while trying to throw to spots instead of receivers during OTAs and summer workouts. He plans to speak with retired QB Kurt Warner, who excelled in Mike Martz's system previously, to compare notes. Cutler said if a quarterback doesn't buy into Martz's system completely, he is going to struggle in it. He said players are young and eager on the Bears, so they are buying into it and seeing the benefits of it.
Huddle Up: The system does present an adjustment for both Cutler and the Chicago receivers, so it will bear watching in the preseason as to whether or not they're all grasping it. If they are, the Bears could have one of the most potent passing games in the league.
